Music lovers can look forward to a festive treat on Saturday night when the Swale Singers present their Christmas concert at St Andrew’s Church, Aysgarth, under the direction of their recently-appointed conductor, Peter Stallworthy.

It will be Peter’s first major concert with the 40-strong choir drawn from Swaledale and Wensleydale since he took over the baton earlier this year from Hugh Bowman.

Music will include Britten’s St Nicholas and Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on Christmas Carols, as well as Finzi’s In Terra Pax.

The concert starts at 7.30pm and tickets are £10 from Andrew Bedford on 01748 886974, andrew@bedfords.me.uk, or on the door.

Peter was the founder conductor of Manchester Sinfonia and recently retired after 16 years conducting the North Staffordshire Symphony orchestra.

The Swale Singers, which celebrate 30 years of music-making next year, present three main concerts each year of which the Christmas one is a highlight of the season.  Rehearsals are every Sunday from 2-5pm in term times at the United Reformed Church in Low Row, Swaledale, and new members are always welcome.
