An injury after a fall from a horse led to a new vocation for a Richmond woman.

Middlemoor Farm Cafe has opened about a mile outside Richmond on the road towards Leyburn.

The cafe has been launched by Sharon and Jeff Stead and their daughter Emily.

This story continues after the adverts:

Emily, 26, was an amateur jockey until she was injured in a fall.

While recovering, the former Richmond School pupil retrained in catering at Darlington College.

She is now the chef at the cafe which is open every day but Wednesday.

She said: “I’m absolutely loving it. We’ve tried to keep it quite simple with soup, sandwiches etc but we also offer a little bit more.

“People are quite surprised when they first come in and see what we’ve done.”

Jeff added: “Whenever possible we are using fresh produce that we have grown ourselves and we want to support other  local suppliers.

“Our cheese comes from the Swaledale Cheese Company in Richmond and Campbells of Leyburn provide us with all out meat.”

The cafe is open 10am to 4.30pm every day other Wednesdays.

Booking is advisable for Sunday lunch
