New footage has emerged of a car being followed by police in a chase across Richmondshire yesterday.

The clip from CCTV cameras at the Penny Garth Cafe in Hawes shows the drive of the Skoda struggling to control the vehicle and narrowly missing other cars as it drives through the town.

It is thought at least one of the car’s tyres had burst during the chase or had been burst by police using a stinger device.

The vehicle crashed and overturned shortage after this footage was captured at nearby Appersett.

Police say a man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop for police, and taken to hospital for treatment.

Police began following the vehicle after receiving a report of a vehicle being driven dangerously near Hornby.

The Skoda car was pursued by police towards Richmond and into the Dales, through Reeth and Gunnerside, before it crashed.

  1. That is just as it came past us, higher up the dale. Perhaps his steering had gone by then. Certainly the car was crabbing substantially. Came towards as if he was cornering in a rally car
