New landlord takes over popular Wensleydale pub

A new landlord has taken over the running of a popular Dales pub.

Aaron Cairns, 27, has taken over the Three Horseshoes in Wensley from Bill and Janet Riding, who now run a guest house in Leyburn.

Aaron worked for Bill and Janet when they bought the Bolton Arms in Redmire, after previously working for the pub’s former owners.

He then went on to help them run the Wensley pub when they took on the lease three years ago.

Aaron says he has no plans to make big changes, although hopes to make more of the patio area at the village pub, which has previously been used for barbecues and music nights.

“You don’t change things if they’re not broken,” he said.

Aaron said he also hoped to push the pizza takeaway service which the pub offers, as well as the loyalty card which gives customers a free pizza after they buy seven and get their card stamped.

All staff that worked for Bill and Janet have stayed on to work for Aaron.

The new landlord said he was relishing the opportunity to run a successful village pub which played a big part int he local community and was well supported by locals.

He said the pub had been extremely busy over Easter weekend and had run out of pound coins.

However, several locals dashed home and came to the rescue with several hundred pounds worth.

“It’s a great community and I’m proud to be part of it,” Aaron said.
