New locations have been announced for speed checks being conducted by local police.

Inspector Martin Metcalfe, from Richmondshire neighbourhood policing team, is organising checks across the district this week.

He said the checks had been well received by the public.

He added: “I have now updated my teams locations to target when on patrol until further notice, to include:

  • Four locations in the Richmond area
  • Manfield
  • Eppleby
  • Melsonby
  • Askrigg
  • Brompton-on-Swale
  • Scorton
  • Scotton dips
  • Harmby
  • Bellerby
  • East Witton
  • West Witton
  • Aysgarth
  • Leyburn
  • Hawes
  • Newbiggin area (Street Head Bank B6120)
  • Reeth
  • Grinton

Insp Metcalfe added: “Be aware there will be other random locations around Richmondshire where other police officers could be, plus there may be camera safety vans at other locations. Therefore, please do not get caught out.

“I have visited most of these areas over the last two days and thankfully the worst case I have found is someone doing 39mph in a 30mph. It was however, very disappointing to discover she was a local resident.

“For clarity, we are not doing this to generate money, we are genuinely doing this to keep our roads as safe as possible, plus are responding to specific complaints in the relevant areas. We will however enforce the Legislation when the time is right.”
