Richmond has officially welcomed its new mayor following the town’s 358th Mayor Making Ceremony.
During the ceremony on Monday, 18 May 2026, Cllr Clive World was elected as Mayor of Richmond for the 2026/27 civic year. His deputy mayor for the year ahead will be Cllr Loo Morton, while the mayoresses will be Mrs Pat Cooper and Mrs Niki Rutland.
The new mayor has chosen five charities and community organisations to support during his year in office: MIND, MayFest, dementia activities in Richmond, Richmondshire Cricket Club Juniors and Richmond Rugby Club Juniors. Donations towards the causes will be welcomed throughout the year.
One of the first fundraising events of the civic year will be the Mayor’s Coffee Morning, taking place at Richmond Town Hall on Saturday, 4 July, from 9am until noon. Residents are being invited to attend.
Cllr World also paid tribute to outgoing mayor Cllr Carl Tate and his wife, Sherrie, thanking them for what he described as an excellent year representing the town.
Looking ahead to the coming months, Cllr World said he was looking forward to meeting residents and visitors alike at the many events taking place across Richmond during the year ahead.
