New men’s mental health group set to launch in Colburn

A new mental health support group for men is set to launch in Colburn.

The group will meet every third Monday of the month in Colburn Village Hall from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

The volunteers behind the group said the aim was to create a safe and nurturing space for men to prioritise their mental well-being.

Founder Pete Bolton said they wanted to “break the stigma surrounding men’s mental health and promote healthy discussions, mutual encouragement, and personal growth”.

Pete added that he was motivated to launch the group following the loss of several friends and people within the local community to suicide.

He added that as vice-chair of Colburn Leisure Centre he had been inundated with enquiries after recently posting about gym sessions to help boost mental health.

He added: “I was taken aback by the numbers of people who wanted to do something but didn’t know where to turn, so I thought there’s scope her to do something more.

“People are struggling and they aren’t talking about it either because they don’t have a voice or they just don’t want to tell you what’s going on in their lives.”
