New owner takes over Gallowfields cafe

The new owner of a Richmond cafe has high hopes it will be the base for a successful business in the area.

Nitin Bajaj has taken on The Estate Cafe on the Gallowfields Trading Estate.

Originally from India, Nitin came to the UK to study hospitality at Napier University in Edinburgh.

After graduation he worked in a number of top hotels in the Scottish capital and met his future wife Kelly.

The couple moved to County Durham, where Kelly is from, and now live in Barnard Castle.

Nitin said: “I’ve been in hospitality for ten years and wanted to stay in the industry after we moved here so I bought this business.

“Eventually I would like to run my own hotel but you have to start small.”

The cafe serves fresh soup  of the day, as well as sandwiches, cooked breakfasts and specials, including Nitin’s authentic chicken curry.

Nitin had hired Beccy Tennant, who is helping to manage the cafe.

The cafe is open 8am to 2.30pm Monday to Friday and 8am ro 12.30pm on a Saturday.
