New police trail bikes used by officers in Dales

New trail bikes acquired by police in Richmondshire were used by officers at the weekend.

PC Chris Coleman and PCSO Vinny Long, from Richmondshire neighbourhood policing team, took the bikes on patrol of rural areas of the district.

Sergeant Lauren Wilkinson said: “These bikes give us the opportunity to get out into our most hard to reach areas where we can target poachers and cross border criminals who we unfortunately find are mostly responsible for our rural farm thefts.

“It wasn’t just us patrolling at the weekend — we were also out with national parks taking part in Operation Byway.

“This operation focuses on people riding off road bikes/vehicles in our rural areas anti socially.

“It can have a massive impact on our rural community causing damage and often disruption to livestock.”

Sgt Wilkinson added: “We had some great interactions with walkers out enjoying the wonderful Yorkshire Dales.

“If you do spot us out and about please say hello, or take the opportunity to report anything to us that you have seen that is suspicious.”
