A new summer bus service linking Wensleydale and Swaledale is set to launch next month, offering a scenic cross-Dales connection for residents and visitors.
The weekly Friday service will run between Hawes and Reeth via Arkengarthdale, operated by Little White Bus as part of the Upper Dales Community Partnership.
Starting on Friday, May 15, the route will operate most Fridays until September 25, subject to roadworks.
The new link is designed to improve access between the two Dales, making it easier for people to travel to Reeth’s popular Friday market, as well as local shops, cafes, pubs and appointments, while reducing reliance on car journeys along one of the area’s most scenic routes.
Stephen Stubbs, chair of Arkengarthdale Parish Council, said the service would be a “positive and practical step” for transport in the Upper Dales.
“It will make it easier for residents and visitors to access services, stay connected, and support local businesses by improving cross-Dales travel,” he said.
Susan Hudson, fleet operations manager at Little White Bus, said the timetable had been designed to be “genuinely useful”, including connections at Reeth for onward travel to Richmond and Tesco.
She added: “We’d encourage people to use it regularly so we can demonstrate demand.”
The route will take in a number of picturesque locations including Simonstone Hall, the Buttertubs, Thwaite, Keld, Tan Hill, Whaw and Langthwaite.
The first bus will depart Hawes at 9am from outside The Board Inn, arriving in Reeth at 10.30am in time to connect with onward services. A return journey will leave Reeth at 10.45am, getting back to Hawes at 12.15pm.
Afternoon services will depart Hawes at 1pm and Reeth at 2.45pm, calling at the same stops.
