New walking challenge created in Swaledale

A new walking challenge — the Reeth Three Hills — has been created by a Reeth outdoor experience company.

Sam Johnson, from Alfresco Adventures, says the route is an “exciting physical challenge and a fantastic day’s walking”.

He added: “Our aim was to come up with an alternative challenge to the Yorkshire Three Peaks that is as equally challenging and to help relieve some of the pressure off the Yorkshire Three Peaks area.”

The walk starts in Reeth and follows a circular route in Swaledale and Arkengarthdale.

It covers 21km (13 miles) and climbs over 950 metres (2850ft).

The three hills are:

  • Fremington Edge 473m
  • Calver Hill 480m
  • Harkerside Top 466m

Sam says the walk takes around six hours.

Alfresco Adventures are running guided walks of the route on May 30 and August 22.
