Tourism businesses across North Yorkshire are being invited to take part in a free summer marketing campaign designed to revive the tradition of postcard writing and encourage visitors to switch off from screens.
The “Picture Perfect” campaign has been created by tourism marketing specialists Susan Briggs and Amanda Brown, who work with businesses in the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors through The Tourism Network business support agency. It is aimed at a wide range of tourism operators including holiday cottages, hotels, B&Bs, attractions, galleries, pubs, restaurants, shops and tearooms.
Organisers say the initiative taps into growing demand from visitors to take a break from digital life, encouraging them to slow down and engage with more traditional, personal forms of communication. They hope postcards will strengthen visitors’ emotional connection to the area and increase word-of-mouth recommendations.
Susan Briggs said handwritten cards offer a level of meaning that digital messages cannot replicate, adding that the region is ideally placed to promote a more mindful, screen-free visitor experience.
There’s no charge for businesses to participate.

A brilliant idea! Quick for the Sender and really lovely to receive – especially with a hand-written message. And no more expensive to send 2nd class than buying a fancy coffee or two. I send and receive occasional postcards to/from friends just to show we are thinking of each other, even though far separated now in distance. A colourful card looks good on the mantlepiece too!
