‘One in a million’ — family pay heartfelt tribute to 19-year-old Alfie Miller

The family of 19-year-old Alfie Miller, who died in a collision near Selby earlier this week, have described their son as “one in a million” and “the most kind and loving and ambitious young man you could have ever met”.

Alfie died following a collision on the A163 near Barlby at about 7.30pm on Monday, September 28.

Police said Alfie was travelling eastbound near the junction with Whitemoor Lane when the blue Land Rover SVR he was in collided with the rear of a tractor towing a large trailer loaded with hay bales.

Despite the efforts of the emergency services, Alfie was pronounced dead at the scene.

His family have now issued a moving tribute describing the 19-year-old as an ambitious businessman who had already achieved much in his short life.

They said: “In loving memory of the world’s greatest Alfie Miller, our beautiful son. Only 19.

“He was the most kind and loving and ambitious young man you could have ever met. He had dreams and he had plans, and we know he would have accomplished them all. Just look at what he had achieved already.”

The family described Alfie as an “extraordinary young man” with ambition, determination and drive that had made him stand out from a young age.

But they said he was much more than his achievements.

“He was our whole world, and our hearts are so broken,” they added.

“He was the most charismatic, charming young man. Any room he entered, he would light it up. You couldn’t help but love him.

“He was larger than life, and he always had a smile on his face. Our son was one in a million, and there will never be another like him.”

Alfie’s family said the response to his death demonstrated how many lives he had touched, with hundreds of photographs, videos and messages sent to them by people who knew and loved him.

They added: “Alfie, you are irreplaceable. We are unbelievably proud of everything you achieved in your short life and how you lived it to the full, but most of all, we are so proud to have called you ours.

“Our beautiful Alfie. Our businessman. Our son. Our brother. Our inspiration. Our boy. Forever 19. Forever loved.

“We will miss you forever, keep it lit up there always and forever my Alfie.”

North Yorkshire Police said its thoughts remained with Alfie’s family, friends and everyone who knew him.

Officers are continuing to investigate the collision and have renewed their appeal for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
