Out of control bonfire sets fire to trees at Eryholme

Firefighters were called out last night after a bonfire got out of control and set fire to nearby trees.

The incident happened in the village of Eryholme, near Darlington.

Crews from Northallerton, Richmond, Colburn and Darlington responded to a report of a fire to some trees at 8.20pm.

On arrival crews found this to be a bonfire that was out of control.

Crews used 45mm jets to protect surrounding trees and area.

Crews also used two jets to extinguish the fire and prevent further fire spread. The incident was left open for crews to revisit today.
