Parish council issues thanks for flooding response

Damage caused by flooding in Moor Road, Bellerby in 2019.

Bellerby Parish Council has issued a thank you for those people and agencies which helped during the flooding.

The village suffered severe flooding after heavy rain on July 30 with water getting into numerous homes and the village pub.

The council stated: “On behalf of the people of Bellerby, the Parish Council would like to thank everybody; local authorities, businesses and individuals for their support following the flood of the 30th July 2019. As a community, we have been overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of everyone who has helped, donated and volunteered to work in getting the village back to a state of normality.

“You may be interested to know that working together with North Yorkshire County Council and the Environment Agency, there will be a full investigation into the causes of the flood, and hopefully this will produce some recommendations that can then be implemented to stop it occurring in the future.

“It’s unfortunate that it takes some form of catastrophe to bring out the best ‘community spirit’, but I can honestly say that I feel the village will be stronger and more cohesive going forwards. We have plenty of projects and events planned for the next few years and I’m sure that thanks to everyone’s support, the village will be back on it’s feet very soon.

“Once again, thank you so much for your kindness.”
