Party planned for return of Dales charity cyclists

A party is being planned for the return of five men completing a gruelling charity challenge next week.

The Shore2Shore Challenge will take place on September 14 and 15.

The men, Dave Moore, Dan Liddy, Andrew Hawkins, Lee Donaldson and Chris Taplin, will cycle from coast to coast twice in 24 hours – a total of 240 miles.

The route will start in their home village of West Burton.

They will then head west to Morecambe.

The team will then about turn and head all the way across to Saltburn on the east coast before returning back to West Burton for the finishing line party at the Fox & Hounds pub.

More than £5,000 has already been raised, but it is hoped more can be raised this week and at a welcome home party and family fun day on Saturday, September 15.

More details are here with everyone welcome:

Macmillan, Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Low Mill Outdoor Centre, Askrigg  and Tynesight all set to benefit from their efforts.

The Tynesight charity supports high quality eye care at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.

The RVI has one of the largest eye departments outside London and has built a national reputation for its pioneering research and development of eye services.

Tynesight was chosen after the charity came to the aid of Aysgarth resident Helen Dinsdale’s son Douglas.

In 2017 around his second birthday Douglas was referred to the RVI for tests and was diagnosed a very rare eye condition called Coats Disease.

Sadly he lost his sight in his right eye which cannot be restored, but the RVI performed numerous operations to save his eye from having to be removed all together.

Helen said:“They looked after him to an outstanding standard and continue to do so.

“Getting involved with the fund raising for this latest challenge is our chance to give something back”

The team has received sponsorship from the Wensleydale Creamery, O’Reilly Accountants and Cleaner Windows with the creamery also providing the team cycling jerseys.
