Penalties were needed to settle two fixtures in the Dales Cup on Saturday.

Leyburn lost out to Hawes after their game finished 3-3 following extra time.

Harry Saunders had slotted home to give Leyburn the lead after 26 minutes, only for goals from Tom Wallis and then Macauley Acton to give Hawes the lead at half-time.

Saunders got a second from the spot to send the game to extra time as the game became increasingly bad-tempered.  Tom Calvert gave Hawes the lead again, but Saunders grabbed his hat-trick to send the game to penalties, which Hawes won 5-4.

Richmond Town Over 35s overcame Reeth on penalties after their game finished 5-5, with Nathan Howard bagging a hat-trick for the Dales team.

Back in the league, Carperby ran out convincing winners in the local derby against Askrigg after a fast start got them in control of the game early.

Michael Dent opened the scoring on seven minutes when his effort from distance took a big deflection off Ben Alderson to send Miles Middleton the wrong way in the Askrigg goal.

The home side soon had their second after Coen Pickard-Sparne’s blocked effort fell to Sam Lambert just inside the area, andthe big striker controlled the ball with his left before a composed finish with his right into the far bottom corner.

Carperby soon got a third. After a good run down the left wing, Aidan Simpson played it inside for Harry Davis. He skipped past two players before firing the ball into the bottom left corner from outside the box.

More pressure came, but it was 34 minutes before Carperby got their fourth. This came after good work from Sam Lambert down the right, who played it back for Michael Dent, whose strike from the edge of the area was flicked in off Coen Pickard-Sparne to again send Middleton the wrong way.

Coen Pickard-Sparne and Eidur Pickard-Sparne were both in the starting lineup alongside their dad John Pickard, in what we believe is the first time a father has played with two sons for the club. Mark and Paul Stephenson both played — and scored — in the same Carperby team previously.

The remainder of the first half saw Askrigg get back into the game, with Carperby taking their foot off the gas slightly, and the away team got their reward when George Cockerill got played in behind, and ran through before finishing well into the bottom corner.

Carperby came out in the second half with the same intensity they’d started the first, and were rewarded after five minutes, when Lambert played it out to Aidan Simpson, who did well before pulling it back for Harry Davis to slot home his second of the game.

Carperby continued to have most of the play, but Askrigg battled really well. The home finally gota sixth on 77 minutes. Davis played the ball to Dent, who slotted home from close range for his second of the game.

Harry Davis then completed his hattrick and the scoring, as Andrew Reynolds’ bullet header fell to the youngster, who turned before beating two players, then curling a lovely finish into the top corner to leave Middleton with no chance in the visiting goal.
