Planners to visit Hawes church ahead of vote

Hawes Methodist Church before its closure.

Members of the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority’s (YDNPA) planning committee visit Hawes Methodist Church tomorrow ahead of a vote on plans to convert the building into housing.

The building has been sold off and the new owners want to create three apartments and two cottages for holiday lets.

The application was discussed at the last (YDNPA) meeting but a decision was deferred until the site meeting had taken place.

The application has proved controversial, with Hawes parish councillors worried the redevelopment of the church would create additional parking problems in the town.

The site visit will be held on Friday, February 22 at 12.30pm.

Parish councillors and members of the public can attend.

A decision is then expected to be made at the March planning committee meeting.
