The fourth Yorkshire Dales Cheese Festival – Celebrating Local Produce will take place from October 7 to 10, with more than 20 local businesses participating.
A Cheesy Twist, Truly Local Ice Cream and Grab A Taste are three of the named events laid out in the Cheese Festival 2021 map.
Cookery courses, tasting experiences, demonstrations and special menus also feature in the programme.
A new Voices From The Dales podcast episode, Cheese Past, has been produced by the Dales Countryside Museum in the run up to the festival, to illustrate the Dales’ close association with milk and cheese.
It features Brian Sunter, Margaret Watson, Matthew Bell, Eleanor Scarr, Kit Calvert, Derek Ramsden and Iona Hill.
A follow-up episode, Cheese Present, will be made during the festival.
Member champion for promoting understanding at the national park authority, Kevin Frea, said: “The Cheese Festival 2021 is one of the ways in which we are showing support for local food and drink businesses.
“The idea is to extend the summer visitor season and encourage people to stay for longer while discovering the best local produce on offer. It’s not all about cheese, either.
“There are fantastic local businesses making quality food and drink, such as craft ales, ice creams, cakes and preserves.
“In a change from the first three cheese festivals we are not holding an opening weekend hub event at a single venue, so as not to create a big crowd.
“We also realise not all businesses have been in a position to hold a special event this year.
“So the key to this year’s festival is the map.
“It shows where people can go to experience the best local produce available.
“If you’re planning to visit the Dales during the festival period, then I would recommend using the map to go on a food crawl across the Dales.”
