BT has submitted plans to put a cash machine inside its phone booth in Leyburn Market Place.
The public telephone would remain along with the ATM under the proposal.
Documents submitted by BT with the plans state: “The conversion of the existing kiosk places the payphone and proposed ATM on the outside of the proposed kiosk.
“The site has been identified within an area which has a high demand for ATM facilities.”
BT says its ATMs have proved to be more secure than traditional bank ATMs and there has never been a successful theft or break-in.
An application has been submitted to Richmondshire District Council.
