Plans have been submitted to turn a former badminton club into three cottages.
The building is situated off the High Street in Leyburn.
The proposal submitted to Richmondshire District Council is for three small cottages/flats which would be available to buy.
The applicants say the properties would be priced to suit first time buyers.
Supporting documents submitted with the plans state: “The history of the building is not fully known.
“It is believed to have been built in the 1800s. Some local knowledge suggests it was originally a congregational chapel and later converted into a youth club before its last use as a badminton club.
“The property has not been used as a badminton club for many years and is currently empty.”
The documents add: “We would like to convert this building into three small cottages/flats.
“These would be attractive to first time buyers and priced accordingly.
“It is also ideally located to provide town centre accommodation and utilise an otherwise vacant and deteriorating building.
“We believe we are restoring the exterior of the building to how it was originally built and ensuring longevity of this site.”
