Plans resubmitted for new housing estate in Middleham

Plans for a new housing estate in Middleham are being resubmitted.

A planning application for 55 homes on the edge of the town has been submitted to North Yorkshire Council.

A previous application was approved by Richmondshire district councillors in 2019 and then again in 2021.

However, agents for the owners say potential buyers of the site have since pulled out because no permission is in place to access the plot over common land off Leyburn Road.

An application has now been submitted to obtain this permission, however the previously granted outline planning application is due to expire later this year and so needs to get new approval.

The scheme was previously approved by councillors after they heard the site on 2.9 hectares of grazing land on the north-western edge of Middleham would include 40 per cent affordable housing, which officers said at the time was a figure “pretty much unheard of in Lower Wensleydale”.
