Play park officially opens in Richmond

Chairman of Richmondshire District Council, and local ward member, Councillor Stuart Parsons, cut the ribbon on the new look park with former councillor Linda Curran.

Richmond’s flagship play park has been officially reopened following a £140,000 revamp.

Old play equipment has been replaced in the toddler area of Ronaldshay Park; six new pieces of inclusive equipment and a large cargo swing installed for older children; and a brand new multi use games area (MUGA) created.

Chairman of Richmondshire District Council, and local ward member, Councillor Stuart Parsons, cut the ribbon on the new look park with former councillor Linda Curran.

“It is such an amazing feeling for both myself and former district councillor Linda Curran to finally see all of the play parks in the old Richmond West Ward upgraded,” he said

“We’ve been fighting for this for almost 16 years. We would like to thank all of the families who helped us to develop this scheme”

Parks at Whitcliffe Grange, Coronation Place and Riverside Road in the town have also been upgraded and improved under the Richmondshire District Council scheme.

At Coronation Place three new items of play equipment were installed – a lancelot castle, Viking swing and spin and bounce device; at Riverside Road a crusader rope end swing have been added; and at Whitcliffe Grange the tarmac surface was replaced to allow for new yard painting of hopscotch and snakes and ladders.

  1. Pity they can’t do something about the disgraceful mess that is the play park in the field at the end of the Whitefield estate. My grandson always asks if he can play in there but I now consider it too dangerous for children. If it is not going to be done then take it away so kids can’t keep asking.
