Local playwright Nobby Dimon has been working with a cast of young people from Richmondshire Youth Theatre (RYT) who are rehearsing his play Last Dance of a Dalesman.
Nobby, who was artistic director of Richmond-based North Country Theatre, has attended rehearsals and delivered a drama workshop with the group.
Last Dance first toured the Dales in 2005 as Richmondshire’s Community Play with a cast of local and professional actors.
Ryt drama tutor Sue Hedges said: “It has been fantastic for our young people to receive direction and feedback and from an industry professional such as Nobby.
“He has shared the inspiration behind his mesmerising script with our cast and this has really helped them with their performances.”
Last Dance of a Dalesman will perform at the Dales Countryside Museum in Hawes on May 18 at 7pm and at Richmond Methodist Church on June 15 at 7pm.
The performances are part of a wider Dales drama project that has run with support from the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority’s Sustainable Development Fund.
For the project RYT members have written new plays and songs and make sound recordings and theatre sets.
These will be performed and shared at the Dales Countryside Museum and at Richmond in June and July.
