Police are appealing for information following a burglary in Leyburn in the early hours of this morning in which a car was stolen.
The break-in happened between 1am and 1.24am today (Wednesday) on Richmond Road.
It was what officers describe as a “2-in-1 burglary” – where offenders break into a property to steal car keys and then take the vehicle.
A grey BMW X3 XDrive M Sport was stolen after suspects forced open a lock box and kitchen door to gain entry to the home.
Vehicle keys were taken before the car was driven off the driveway.
Police believe other properties may also have been scoped out by the suspects and are asking residents to check CCTV or doorbell footage, particularly if they live on Richmond Road, Thornborough Crescent or Woodburn Drive.
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: “We are appealing for information about any suspicious activity in the Leyburn area around this time.
“Please also make sure valuables and vehicle keys are secure and out of sight, and continue to report any suspicious behaviour.”
Anyone with information that could help the investigation is asked to email PC Dom Webb at dom.webb@northyorkshire.police.uk, call 101 quoting reference 12250156680, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
