Police are appealing for information after a suspicious van was spotted on two occasions in the Gayle area.
The vehicle is described as a Citroen van with ladders on its roof, with a possible registration of SK7 CS**.
North Yorkshire Police said the van was driven to a property in Gayle on July 30 by an unknown man.
The man reportedly asked the occupant whether they wanted work carrying out on their trees for free.
Police said when the resident asked the man for a business card, he quickly left the area.
The same vehicle was then reportedly spotted again during the early hours of August 8, when it was travelling in convoy with another vehicle. No details are currently available about the second vehicle.
Officers are asking anyone who remembers seeing the van, was approached by its occupants at their home, or can provide its full registration number to come forward.

Given it can be no more than 26 vehicles legally registered in the UK with that registration. It should be possible to trace the owners and eliminate most of them.
