Police appeal after swan killed while guarding its nest

Police have issued an appeal for information after a swan was killed while guarding its nest.

An adult male swan was attacked at Colburn Lakes, behind Brompton on Swale Caravan Park, between 2.30pm and 6.30pm on Tuesday.

Two eggs were also removed from the swan’s nest.

Police say killing wild birds and taking their eggs are both offences.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “We are requesting the public’s assistance to help establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident.

“In particular we would like information about any suspicious people in the area as well as the possible whereabouts of the eggs that were removed from the nest.”

  1. Wildlife is struggling at the moment and then, someone does this! Swans pair for life, so the female will now be distressed. What is wrong with people?
