Police are appealing for witnesses and footage following yesterday’s light aircraft crash near Masham.
A cordon remains in place at Grewelthorpe after the aircraft came down at around 12.21pm on Wednesday, February 18 within the grounds of Himalayan Garden and Sculpture Park, which was closed to the public at the time.
Emergency services responded immediately and located a single occupant inside the aircraft — a man in his 20s. He was taken to hospital, where he remains in a serious condition. No one else is believed to have been on board.
North Yorkshire Police confirmed they are working alongside the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB), which has attended the scene and launched its own investigation into the cause of the crash.
Officers are now urging anyone who witnessed the incident, or who saw the aircraft prior to it coming down, to come forward.
Police are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have mobile phone or dashcam footage of the aircraft while it was airborne. Members of the public are asked not to share any footage on social media, but instead to provide it directly to officers.
Anyone with information is asked to email matthew.wilkinson@northyorkshire.police.uk or call North Yorkshire Police on 101 and ask for Matthew Wilkinson.
