Woman found after search of River Swale by firefighters

A woman has been found after a person was spotted in the River Swale this morning.

North Yorkshire Police issued an appeal after a woman was seen in the river at Brompton-on-Swale at 9am.

Fire crews from Richmond, Ripon, Colburn, Leyburn and Northallerton were called in to search the river for her.

The fire service reported at about 4.30pm today that the woman had been found on the river bank.

She was handed over to the care of the ambulance service.

A fire service spokesperson said: “Crews carried out a full search of the river bank and located a female in her 20s on a spit of land between two lakes.

“Crews assisted handing over the casualty to the ambulance service.”

The public was asked to look out for the woman who police said may have been heading towards the Colburn area.
