Police issue scam call warning

Police in Richmondshire have issued a warning following a spate of scam phone calls.

Residents are receiving calls from local numbers.

When answering they are given the instruction to press press 1, otherwise £600 would be transferred from their bank account.

Police have urged residents not to press 1 as this will mean they are charged high call rates or their details being shared.

A spokesperson for Richmondshire police said: “It does appear at first to be genuine be we can confirm that it is not genuine.”
