Police are urging allotment holders and residents with garden sheds in Colburn to review their security following a recent break-in.
The incident occurred at an allotment on Watson Way between 3pm on Wednesday, February 18 and 3pm on Thursday, February 19.
North Yorkshire Police say allotments and garden sheds are often targeted for tools and other valuable equipment and are reminding plot holders to take simple precautions to help protect their belongings.
Officers advise ensuring sheds are secured with good quality locks and considering additional measures such as hinge bolts and shed alarms.
Tools and equipment should be stored securely and kept out of sight when not in use, while high-value items should be taken home where possible.
Police also recommend marking tools with a postcode to make them less attractive to thieves and easier to identify if recovered.
A spokesperson said: “Report any suspicious activity to police as soon as possible.”
The force offers a free property marking service, and residents interested in having items security marked are encouraged to get in touch via katie.whitehead@northyorkshire.police.uk for further information.
Anyone with information relating to the break-in, or with relevant CCTV footage, is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101.
