Police issue warning after Hawes bank card fraud

Barclays Bank in Hawes before its closure.

Police have issued a warning after a bank card fraud in Hawes.

On Wednesday at 9.50am, a local resident was approached by an unknown male in the market place.

The man proceeded to convince the resident to let him use his bank card at the Barclays ATM.

The male succeeded in withdrawing £300 before disappearing.

A spokesperson for the Leyburn Leyburn Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “Never give your bank card, PIN number or bank details to anyone else under any circumstances.
“If in doubt, contact your bank or ourselves for advice.”

The male is described as white, early to mid 60s, dressed in outdoor/country clothing and had no obvious accent.
