Police issue witness appeal after A66 collision

Police are appealing for witnesses and dash-cam footage following a two-vehicle collision on the A66 in Richmondshire.

It happened at around 8.30pm on Tuesdayst the junction with East Layton, opposite Mainsgill Farm Shop.

It involved a red Suzuki car that was heading south on Moor Lane towards the A66 from East Layton, and a yellow Ford Transit van that was heading east in the direction of Scotch Corner.

The driver of the Suzuki, a man aged in his 70s, had to be freed from the vehicle by firefighters before being taken to hospital by ambulance.

His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Diversions were managed by National Highways while the emergency services worked at the scene and to allow the safe recovery of both vehicles.

The road reopened at around 12.30am on Wednesday.

Officers say they need to hear from witnesses to the collision or any motorists in the area at the time who may have relevant dash-cam footage of the incident or of either vehicle prior to the collision.
