Police are investigating fire damage to a playpark which has caused its indefinite closure.

Firefighters were called to a fire in the park in Aisne Road on Sunday evening.

Local residents on social media blamed a group of teenage boys for starting the fire.

The damage was so severe that the Pinnacle Group, which manages the estate for the MoD, has told local residents the facility will be closed indefinitely.

Polciec have confirmed they are investigating the incident and have called for anyone with information to get in touch.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman: “We were called by a member of the public at just before 8pm on Sunday 21 April to reports of a fire at a nursery on La Bassee Road in Catterick Garrison.

“A fire was started in the play area behind the nursery. We are treating the fire as suspicious and have launched an investigation to identify who is responsible.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 and quote reference number 12240069721.”
