Police came to the rescue of a little owl which was hit by a car.

The owl was found by Traffic Officer Martin Usher between Richmond and Catterick Garrison on Friday evening.

The force said: “Our officer, TC Martin Usher, took off his fleece, wrapped it around the owl and took it back to his office where it then fell asleep between his fleece and shirt.”

The little owl, which has now been checked over by a specialist, will stay with the officer over the next few days while he builds his strength back up.

He will then be released back in to the wild.
