Police patrols stepped up in Dales after thefts and suspicious incident

Police say there will be increased patrols in the Dales over coming days following the theft of two caravans.

The caravans were stolen last night from Patrick Brompton.

One was a white Sienna with black stripes. It was a six berth and twin axle.

Police say they are still trying to get details of the further caravan stolen.

There was also an incident in Leyburn last night where a vehicle failed to stop for officers.

The vehicle was later found abandoned and three figures were seen to run from it.

A number of officers headed to the area but the males were not found.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said “The vehicle contained a number of tools suspected to be used in burglaries so the group were clearly up to no good.

“The vehicle has been seized and items found within will be tested to see whether any DNA can be identified.

“Due to this we have been upping our patrols in our more rural areas today and will do over the coming days.

“If you see a bigger police presence, do not be alarmed. We want to protect our rural community and appreciate that due to the vast area we cover we can’t get to certain area’s as much as we would like.

“Please be vigilant. Keep your property locked and secured, vehicles locked and kept in garages where possible.”

If you see anything or anyone suspicious please contact police immediately on 101 or 999.
