Police respond to complaints about anti-social behaviour from supercar drivers

Police say they have received numerous reports of supercars racing around and driving anti-socially in the Leyburn area.

Residents say the vehicles are being driven at speed between Leyburn and Middleham and towards Bedale.

Inspector Martin Metcalfe, neighbourhood policing officer for Richmondshire, said: “I just wanted to reassure you all that we are fully aware and according to the information received, we believe they are linked to weddings being held in the area.

“We have been in contact with the organiser of the weddings and are now in possession of the dates and times of future weddings, so please be assured we will do our utmost to target these irresponsible motorists if they continue to behave in such a manner.

“I would urge that you report incidents on the 101 system, or if you are having issues reporting them on that system, please report via the North Yorkshire Police website, unless you consider it to be an emergency of course.”

Insp Metcalfe added: “I just wanted to take this opportunity to reassure you all, we are aware and will do our best to reduce the issue whilst working with the organisers, who have been extremely helpful in that respect.”
