Police step up patrols in Colburn and Catterick Garrison following rise in anti-social behaviour

Police have stepped up patrols in Colburn and parts of Catterick Garrison following a recent rise in reports of anti-social behaviour.

Officers from the Catterick Neighbourhood Policing Team say they share residents’ concerns after receiving an increased number of reports of young people knocking on doors and running away — behaviour which has caused frustration and distress for local homeowners.

A police spokesperson said: “We have increased our patrols in the area at key times to identify those responsible for any offences, provide reassurance for residents, and engage with the youngsters involved.

“Work is ongoing with partner agencies, and we will liaise with schools and parents where necessary to address this behaviour.”

Police are urging the public to report all incidents of anti-social behaviour to help them build a clear picture of what is happening and to direct resources effectively.

“We ask residents not to take matters into their own hands but to report incidents to us via 999 in an emergency, 101, or online for non-urgent matters,” the spokesperson added.

Officers have also appealed to parents to be aware of their children’s whereabouts in the evenings.

“Most young people in Catterick are respectful and well-behaved, but some may be drawn into behaviour that puts them at risk of offending, especially if they are gathering in the area at night.

“We will continue to engage with those causing concern and take enforcement action if necessary.”
