Police target unsafe parking outside Richmond schools

North Yorkshire Police have issued a warning to drivers after several motorists were fined for parking irresponsibly on Darlington Road in Richmond.

Officers from the Richmond Neighbourhood Policing Team carried out checks during school pick-up and drop-off times this morning to improve safety for children and families.

Three drivers received penalty notices for ignoring double yellow lines and “Keep Clear” road markings.

A police spokesperson said: “Double yellow lines and Keep Clear markings are there for a reason.

“If you take the risk of parking where you shouldn’t, the next letter through your door may be from our ticket office. Please don’t fall foul of parking irresponsibly.”

I’m sorry but why is there not a recovery vehicle on standby to pick up these vehicles and take them away? The driver would have to pay a fine, recovery charge etc. Word would soon go around “ DO NOT PARK THERE!!”
It’s the only way some people will learn and not ignore the rules.

Suggest opening Cross Lanes which gives access to 4 schools with chevron type parking on both sides
