Police to conduct speed checks after complaints

Police say they will be conducting speed checks on roads across Richmondshire in coming days.

It follows complaints about speeding drivers from local residents.

Inspector Martin Metcalfe, from Richmondshire Community Police, said: “As a direct result of complaints from local residents to myself, I will be conducting speed enforcement checks at the following locations in Richmondshire when on patrol.

“The purpose of this message is to reassure residents that I will be taking positive action and also to make others residents not on this list aware that you can report speeding concerns on the link below.”

The speed checks will take place at Melsonby, Scotton, Hawes, West Witton, Bellerby, Bishopdale, three locations in Richmond, Aysgarth, Reeth and Askrigg.

Insp Metcalfe has urged residents to report speeding problems in their communities.

  1. It is not a speeding issue in Askrigg, who can get through at 5mph?,it is illegal parking be it on the Pavements or double parking on opposite sides of the road, parking enforcement is the prime priority not speeding!

  2. What about Horne Road, Catterick Garrison when vehicles frequently travel at 50+ m.p.h. where the checking personnel can be clearly seen on the long straight section allowing drivers time to slow down!
