Potential Dales first responders invited to drop-in session

The Swaledale-based Two Dales Community First Responders, in conjunction with the Yorkshire Ambulance Service, will hold a drop-in session during Reeth market next Friday, August 19, from 9.30am to 2.30pm.

There will be a chance for members of the public to learn about the role of first responders, view the equipment they carry and meet the local team.

A paramedic will be in attendance to answer questions about the role of the Yorkshire Ambulance Service and their interaction with the First Responders.

There will be the opportunity to learn the basics of CPR and to practice on one of the mannequins, as well as to find out more about the defibrillators sited throughout the area.

Team coordinator Pete McKay said: “We welcome anyone willing to learn these vital life-saving skills. I would simply ask anyone to consider if they have the skills and confidence to act if someone falls unconscious in their presence?

“As demands on the NHS increase, we face similar demands on the services of first responders.

“It is imperative we keep an active pool of effective responders and we are always on the lookout for suitable volunteers, who after training by the Yorkshire Ambulance Service, are able to give up at least ten hours a week to join our team.”
