Power to remain off until Wednesday in some Dales communities

Dales communities will have to wait until Wednesday for their power to be restored, engineers say.

Northern Powergrid had hoped to reconnect dozens of properties still without electricity in upper Wensleydale and Swaledale today.

However, in its latest update the company has revised when it will be able to restore power.

It now estimates that power will be switched back on for 30 properties in the Keld area by midnight on Wednesday.

A total of 120 properties in the Simonstone and Hardraw area also still without power.

They too could have to wait until midnight on Wednesday.

A further 20 properties in outlying areas near Hawes are due to be switched on by the same time.

Twenty properties in the Marrick area near Reeth are due to be reconnected by 12pm today.

As well as no electricity, the power cut has meant residents not having water as the supply relies on water being pumped from down the dales,

Anyone with issues relating to a power cut should contact Northern Powergrid via www.northernpowergrid.com/contact or call their 24-hour helpline on 105.
