A prominent former hotel has been auctioned off for the second time in 18 months.

The Bridge House Hotel at Catterick Bridge went under the hammer on Monday, selling for £150,000.

The sale comes after the building was sold off for £240,000 in May last year.

The former 15-bedroom pub, restaurant and hotel was badly damaged by fire in February 2014 and restoration work has never taken place.

It has also been vandalised internally by trespassers.

Attempts were made in 2017 to sell the building at auction, however it failed to sell.

Efforts were made twice in 2020 but the lot was twice withdrawn due to a lack of interest.

Michael Mercer, from property agents Strettons, which auctioned off the premises, said he did not know what the new owners had planned for the site.

He added: “It’s been in quite bad condition for some time now and has suffered fire damage.

“It was an interesting lot to have and it will be interesting to see what the new owners do with it and if they invest some money into it.

“Obviously it’s a prominent building and it would be good for the local community if that does happen.”
