A public meeting will take place next week to decide the future of Colburn Leisure Centre.

It comes after Richmondshire Leisure Trust (RLT), which runs the facility, gave its notice saying it had taken the decision due to “significant increase in operating costs”.

The trust told Colburn Town Council which owns the site that its energy and water bills were estimated to rise from £15,000 last year to £72,000 a year following the end of its previous energy contract on September 1.

The meeting will be held at Colburn Village Hall at 7pm on Tuesday.

A spokesperson for Colburn Town Council said: “The meeting is to discuss the future of the Colburn Leisure Centre and how it could be managed and financed.

“A final decision will take place on Tuesday evening.”
