Quad bikes recovered after thieves target Dales farms

Police have thanked rural watch volunteers after four stolen quad bikes were recovered.

The quad bikes were taken between 5pm and 10pm on Friday night from the upper Wensleydale, Bishopdale and Upper Wharfedale areas.

But police say that due to the efforts of rural watch volunteers and local residents, the bikes have all been recovered.

A spokesperson for the Leyburn and Dales safer neighbourhood policing team said: “Thanks to the outstanding work by an impressive number of Wharfedale and Wensleydale Rural Watch members and local residents, who kept vital information coming into our force control room and to officers on the ground, it appears that the suspects were spooked by the turnout and ended up dumping all the quads in various off-road locations.

“All have now been recovered, the last being found this morning near Kilnsey.

“We would like to thank all those that were involved last night, in what were difficult weather conditions, for assistance with accessing off-road locations, giving directions and passing vehicle details and updates, your help was invaluable.”

Police say more quad bikes may have been stolen but the thefts have not yet been reported.
