Race day for Richmondshire as UCI Road World Championships come to district

It’s Richmondshire day to shine – despite the rain – as the UCI Road World Championships visit for the first time this week.

The men’s junior road race will start in Richmond at 12.10pm this afternoon.

The riders will head off to Catterick Garrison, before passing over the tops to Bellerby and Leyburn.

From there they will ride down the A684 to Wensley, before turning off to Redmire and on to Carperby.

After crossing the river at Aysgarth Falls, they will head over Kidstones and into Wharfedale towards the finish in Harrogate.

The cyclists are expected to be welcomed by large crowds as they pass through the district.

The cyclists will return on Sunday when it’s time for the men’s elite road which, which will pass through Wensleydale and Swaledale.

A number of road closures are parking restrictions have been put in place.

  1. The cyclists came & went very quickly along with 38 police motorcycles, 2 police cars & 5 ambulances!!! Please tell me that we locals are not paying for all this in our taxes & council tax.
