Racing Reminiscence Day to be held at Catterick Racecourse

The flat season continues apace at Catterick Racecourse on Thursday with its Racing Reminiscence Day at the track and a competitive seven-race card is on offer for punters heading through the turnstiles.

Racing gets underway at 2.10 with a six-runner maiden fillies’ handicap before rounding off at 5.50 with a class six handicap in division two.

The opener (2.10) sees Harswell Dandy take to the track for a third time having only been beaten by one rival on her first two starts. The Ben Ellison-trained Sybaris Jewel rates as the main danger having had a promising debut when third on debut before finding a Listed contest at York way too much to handle and is dropping down markedly in class at Catterick.

Race two (2.40) is a very open-looking sprint contest in class six over the five furlong distance and preference is for Resilience, who is off a workable mark again having finished second of nine in a Wolverhampton handicap last time out. Course and distance second, Irish Dancer, should be bang in there as well having performed well at Catterick last time out.

The third race on the Thursday card is one for the stayers as eight runners tackle the 1m4f trip in the class five maiden stakes (3.10) looking for their first win. See The Green can be the one to do just that, following up an iffy debut when finishing second of 12 at Ripon five weeks ago and is taken to improve further for trainer Owen Burrows.

The midway point of the meeting is reached with a decent field of 12 heading to the stalls for the 5f sprint handicap in class six (3.40). Noisy Music has switched yards from Kevin Ryan to Mick Appleby having shown good progress and is now thrown into handicaps for the first time and could just shade it from Macarone, who won two of his three starts as a two-year-old and was third on seasonal reappearance.

White Umbrella, a course and distance winner, can make it four wins from seven runs in race five of the Catterick card (4.10) ahead of Ghatanfar, a course and distance runner-up last time out. Race five (4.40) can go the way of Happier, who posted a career-best last time out when fifth of 13 at Ripon last time out and is stepped up to seven furlongs for the first time.

The penultimate race of the afternoon (5.15) is a seven-furlong handicap in class six that can go the way of Without Delay for trainer Tracy Waggott, a winner of a Musselburgh handicap last time out and can make it back-to-back wins here from Rockin Rosa, third over course and distance on April 30.

Finally, the card comes to a close with the division two handicap in class six (5.50) and preference here is for Mr Strutter, who has been a solid performer at Catterick without being spectacular in recent months but has a course and distance victory at the track, back in October 2023.
