Refugees help charity prepare Hudswell field for community orchard

Refugees from Richmond and Colburn helped Richmond-based charity Just the Job and local villagers create a new community orchard in Hudswell.

Refugees living in Richmondshire have helped prepare a field for a new community orchard.

Richmond-based charity Just the Job worked with local refugees from Richmond and Colburn, and local villagers, on the field in Hudswell.

The field is being prepared ready for a a new community orchard to be planted this winter.

Just the Job were approached by Richmond Job Centre to help with some outdoor work experience for the refugees.

Steve Biggs, Just the Job manager, said: “Everyone worked really hard and cleared a large area of scrub to get the site ready for a mixture of native fruit trees to be planted in the next couple of months.”

Just the Job will hold their annual Christmas craft and coffee day on Wednesday, December 5 at their base at 30 Racecourse Road, Richmond.
