Police say they have received reports of fake £20 notes being used in Richmondshire.
The man responsible for trying to use the notes was described as white and aged in their late 40s.
They were wearing a black jacket, blue jeans, dark trousers and a grey baseball cap.
He also had a ginger beard.
The man has been spotted in the Co-op in Richmond and Colburn.
Anyone with information should call 999 or 101.
