Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team (SMRT) were called out after a working sheepdog became trapped on a crag.

Police requested the team’s help after Cia got into difficulty while working in Swinnergill, near Keld, in Swaledale, on Wednesday.

Volunteers abseiled down to reach her and were able to bring her back to safety.

Steve Clough, SMRT controller, said the dog had been working some sheep along an edge and got itself stuck on the ledge.

He added: “There were very loose boulders all around it so our best option was to abseil in from above.

“Needless to say, once rescued Cia was more interested in finding the sheep again than thanking its rescuers!”

This was the team’s 40th call-out of the year.
